Academic Scholarship Program




Two scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to two (2) individuals, to be selected by the DSN Scholarship Program Selection Committee. Funds will be remitted directly to the school, university or college of attendance named on the application. The selected recipient will be notified and announced on July 31st, 2020.


DSN Scholarship Program supports our objective, to “increase confidence and independence in our members by supplying them the tools and resources they need to adapt to life with chronic illnesses while challenging themselves to set new goals despite their physical limitations.”

​Applicants must be:

  1. At least 17 years old (parental consent is required for applicants under 18 years old)

  2. A resident of the United States

  3. Currently enrolled or accepted in an accredited trade school, college or university in the United States

  4. An active member of DSN committed to supporting our mission, as defined by our organization's Mission Statement.

  5. Diagnosed by a United States based MD or DO with Dysautonomia and/or a related condition such as Connective Tissue Disorders, Mast Cell Activation Disorders, Chiari Malformation, or a Gastric Motility Disorder

Previous DSN education scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply for additional funds for the same or the next school year but may apply again for future years. Applicants who are not selected are eligible to apply for future scholarships and will be required to submit a new application and attachments annually. DSN Directors and Officers, members of the DSN Scholarship Program Selection Committee, and their immediate family members are ineligible.


DSN is specifically looking to assist members who have demonstrated:

  1. Commitment to awareness and/or advocacy for Dysautonomia and Co-occurring disorders

  2. Understanding their needs and challenges and the ways education will enhance their life

  3. Resilience when facing adversity and determination to strive toward short and long-term goals.



  1. Application form available online during the application period.

  2. If selected, applicants must also submit a letter from their physician verifying the diagnosis of an eligible condition.

  3. All applicants must also submit proof of current enrollment at the educational institution they will be attending.

  4. Eligible non-citizens must provide a copy of Alien Registration Card: I-151 or I-551 with application

    Applications must be submitted online via the DSN website and the required attachments must be submitted via email to no later than 11:59 pm (eastern) July 10, 2020.

  5. All information provided by the applicant will be reviewed only by the DSN Scholarship Selection Committee. The applications of scholarship recipients will remain on file with DSN, but all other applications and attachments will be destroyed



  1. The Scholarship award will be reported to the IRS and may be subject to income tax, therefore the selected recipient will be required to provide a social security number. Please refer IRS publication 970 for more information.

  2. To help raise awareness and inspire others, recipients of the DSN Education Scholarship will be asked to sign a photo release and provide periodic updates and pictures of their journey through graduation.

  3. To help further DSN’s mission, the recipient of the DSN Education Scholarship will be asked to participate in at least one fundraising event in order to expand and grow the program.

  4. Recipients will be notified via email by July 31, 2020 if selected. 

  5. Recipients will have one calendar year from award date to use the scholarship.  Funds will be paid directly to the school, university or college upon approval by the DSN Education Scholarship Selection Committee.
