EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROMES & HYPERMOBILTY SPECTRUM DISORDERS
Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are a group of inherited connective tissue disorders, caused by various defects in the synthesis of collagen. EDS is known to affect men and women of all socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. It is a genetic disorder that is present at birth but can often go unrecognized for years, even decades. Patients often present with a "constellation of symptoms" as they age that make this elusive syndrome difficult for the untrained eye to recognize.
Hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) are a group of conditions, which may or may not be inherited, and are related to joint hypermobility. HSD, just like EDS, can have significant effects on activities of daily living. Early diagnosis, validation and health care management can significantly impact patient outcomes and quality of life despite the diagnosis.
